Indian Pioneer Cricketer Varun Chakravarthy was born on 29th August 1991 in Bidar, Karnataka and he is famous for his exceptional leg-spin bowling. He is one of the prominent players of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Initiall,y he was an architect but later he pursued his career as a renowned cricketer. Early Life and Transition of Varun Chakravarthy to Cricket
Chakravarthy did his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya CLRI and St. Patrick’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, where he began leaving the footprints of his cricketing talents. Later he pursued a bachelor’s degree in architecture from SRM University. But thereafter he made a strong decision at the age of 25 to make cricket his full-time career leave behind his architectural career and fully devour himself towards cricket.
Domestic Career and IPL Breakthrough
On 28th September 2018, he managed to make his List A debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2018-19 Vijay Hazare Trophy and emerged as the shining player and leading wicket-taker for his team with 22 dismissals in nine matches. His impressive performance was detected by the IPL scouts which ended up giving a significant contract with Kings XI Punjab in 2019 for ₹8.4 crores. By the way, his debut season was challenging but his resilience and passion towards cricket led him to the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2020. Varun Chakravarthy achieved his first five-wicket haul in the IPL on 24th October 2020 and recorded figures of 5 wickets for 20 runs against the Delhi Capitals in Abu Dhabi.

International Career of Varun Chakravarthy
Varun Chakravarthy has kept his footsteps in international cricket ground only because of his consistently excellent performance in the domestic matches. He has given a glance at his outstanding performance by taking the wicket of Dasun Shanaka in his T20 International debut for India on July 25, 2021, against Sri Lanka. In February 2025, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against England. Moreover, he became the second-oldest player, after Farokh Engineer, to debut in ODIs for India.
Champions Trophy 2025: A Stellar Performance
Recently in the 2025 Champions Trophy, he has played spectacularly in a crucial match against New Zealand. He has showcased his incredible performance by playing at his best and delivering a match-winning display, taking 5 wickets for 42 runs. His incredible performance not only helped India’s 44-run victory but also ensured India’s top position in Group A with three consecutive wins.

Personal Life
Apart from the cricket field Chakravarthy has showcased his versatility by making a cameo appearance in the 2014 Tamil sports drama film “Jeeva” as a club cricketer. Talking about his personal life, he married his long-time lover Neha Khedekar on December 11, 2020, in a private ceremony in Chennai.
